Job description

Plays a key role in the UK Data Archive's new Secure Data Service assisting users in locating, accessing and using appropriate datasets from the UK Data Archive's online Data Catalogue, ensuring access conditions are met, and providing advice on dataset content and analysis. Involved in: administering strict government guidelines on accessing potentially disclosive data in a secure environment; training users of the SDS on how to use the system; making them aware of their legal responsibilities; and showing them how to undertake simple statistical disclosure assessments of outputs. Responsible for running statistical disclosure checks on analytical outputs, liaising with the service manager and data owners over complex cases.

Job description

Primary responsibility for all SDS hardware and software. Provides expert advice on data encryption, storage and transfer. Pro-actively monitors and incorporates appropriate technological advances into SDS systems. Researches and develops high security remote access platforms. Implements and assists in the ongoing development of the Secure Data Service Security Plan. Trains staff in all technical aspects of the workings of the Secure Data Service.

Job description

As designated Security Manager for the UK Data Archive, Matthew's responsibilities for the Secure Data Service are predominantly strategic. He has overall responsibility for the development and implementation of information security across the UK Data Archive, including working beyond conformance and towards certification of BS ISO/IEC 27001 for information security. Matthew drew up the original Security Plan for the SDS, codifying the Standard Operating Procedures and developing the statement of applicability for BS ISO/IEC 27001.
